Brief Tips

Improving my short-term memory

Try not to take in more than two or three points of information at most.  Find links to what you already know.

Remembering formulae and mathematics

Do lots of worked examples tracing back to clear understandings.  Use colour coding for formulae adding silly images to help you recall.

Recalling the detail in diagrams and graphs

Add reminders to the original to remind you of things you get wrong.  Use big arrows and visual signs like DON’T FORGET!

Not remembering unless I revise just before the exam

Make brief question and answer cards.  Test yourself on the topic and do this regularly for a few minutes.  You will remember!

How to remember dates and names

Big, bold, colourful drawings and images linking dates, events and people together.

Remembering facts

Use your senses to make links between facts – don’t try to remember facts on their own but see how they form part of the whole picture.
