Drama Pupils will have the opportunity to take part in Drama activities within English and a GCSE course in Drama and Theatre Arts is offered in Year 10, for which boys are usually asked to take a short audition.
The School has presented a wide range of drama in recent years. Productions have included Entertaining Strangers, Dark of the Moon and our entry for the Lloyds Bank Young Theatre Challenge, Obeying Orders. A lively production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream was presented in the round in the Great Hall, supported by excellent contributions from the Art Department. We have also presented Spud Ferret and the Case of the Stolen Diamonds, preceded by the home-grown Murder at St Barnabas and on another occasion we offered Anonymous, Hit and Run and The Audition. One major production was The Wind in the Willows performed with a caravan, car and train designed and built by the CDT Department, and striking masks created by the Art Department.
Much depends on the voluntary work of staff, but frequently large areas of responsibility are undertaken by boys, who can receive training to become proficient in stage lighting, design and set construction and theatre management, as well as acting. Drama productions are occasionally presented in conjunction with students from Dover Grammar School for Girls.
